WEEK FOUR PREVIEW: SHARKS VS. LIONS

Sharks Looks to Pin Down Columbus Lions for a Loss

JACKSONVILLE, FL – The Jacksonville Sharks enter week four after a devastating loss this week. The Sharks fell in Greensboro, NC taken down by the  undefeated Carolina Cobras (3-0) . It was a dogfight from the start as the Sharks entered halftime 20-20. In the second half the Sharks defense held the Cobras to only 23 more points and the Sharks came out just shy of a win at 48-53. This is the first time the Sharks started with three straight losses to start the season in team history.

This week the Sharks will take on the (2-0) Columbus Lions, their NAL rival and a team that had struggled in the Shark Tank until recent years. Jacksonville will look for home victory to improve their record to 2-2 but also spoil the Lions win streak as Columbus returns from a restful bye week.

Jacksonville (0-3) started the season on the road in Columbus falling to the Lions in overtime 56-49. Although Jacksonville counted this as a loss, they still amounted 226 receiving yards on the Lions. Quarterback Malik Henry had success against the throwing for over 230 yards but had costly turnovers in his first matchup. Henry had a much better home debut in Jacksonville against the Empire where he scored seven passing touchdowns and one rushing score for a crucial two-point conversion. If Henry can repeat his success in the Shark Tank it could mean trouble for the confident Columbus Lions who plan to go to their fifth straight postseason in the NAL.

The Lions enter week four with a 49% passing completion, an average of 17 rushing yards per game, 163.5 receiving yards per game, and 484.0 offensive yards per game. The Sharks will need to mount a strong Offense as Darren Daniel (QB) is currently leading the league in rushing touchdowns. The Lions enter week four off of a bye week, the last time they took the field they walked away with a 45-46 win against the Gunslingers. The question is, will this be enough to stop the Sharks from a victory this week?

The Sharks are looking to top the Lions in scoring as the Sharks despite their record are one of the top scoring teams in the league with 52 points per game. If the Sharks can play lights out it’s going to be a long night for the Lions. This week’s game is set for Saturday, May 14th with kickoff at 7pm.
