Week 16 Preview

Jacksonville, FL – The Sharks will play their final regular season home game on Saturday, July 22nd against West Texas. The first-place Sharks are looking for a win over the last-place Warbirds to sweep the regular season matchup between the two.

The two teams have yet to play each other in Jacksonville, but the Sharks have beaten the Warbirds twice in Texas. Most recently, on June 3rd, the Sharks won 58-45. 

Sha-ki Holiness led the defense with four sacks; Jermiah Price had two, and David Gilbert had one back in week nine.

Sam Castronova threw six touchdown passes and 277 yards. All six touchdowns went to different Sharks, getting everyone involved on offense. 

Castronova was named Offensive Player of the Week, and Holiness was the Defensive Player of the Week after their intense games in West Texas.

Last week, the Sharks took down the Orlando Predators at home 56-24. Defense ruled the game for the Sharks. Jabari Gorman and Marvin Ross both had interceptions for touchdowns. Brian Smith, Jimmie Goodloe, David Gilbert, Justin Renfrow, and Faleaoga Russell had sacks. 

Castronova ended the night with 212 passing yards and three touchdown passes. He also had one rushing touchdown and five rushing yards.

For Week 15, Gorman was named the League’s Defensive Player of the Week and Anthony Johnson the Ironman Player of the Week after he scored two touchdowns and had a blocked kick. 

West Texas last played on July 8th in Carolina. The Cobras took down the Warbirds 66-35 in the Ector County Coliseum. Trevon Shorts and Jalen Wilson had two interceptions for the home team.
