Sharks Leading Receiver Stays with Sharks
All-NAL Wide Receiver Continues Career in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE – The 2019 National Arena League Champion Jacksonville Sharks have announced today the signing of First Team All-NAL Wide Receiver Devin Wilson. Returning from his best season with Jacksonville, Wilson led the team in catches, yards, and receiving touchdowns and now enters his third season with the Sharks and sixth year of arena football.
“Very excited to have Devin back with us for another season. He is a high caliber player that gives us a lot of options on the offensive side of the ball, and definitely makes us a better ball club. His veteran leadership will be important to us moving into the 2021 season. We will be leaning on him to do what he does best, which is make plays. I got a lot of respect for Devin on and off the field and look forward to coaching him again this upcoming season.” Said Head Coach James Fuller.
Wilson (6’3, 210) was nothing short of a NAL superstar in 2019. Jacksonville’s prime time receiver recorded 115 receptions for 1,340 yards and 32 touchdowns including 13 receptions for 161 yards, and three touchdowns in the postseason to help secure the Sharks second NAL championship title. The Sharks top target earned First-Team All-NAL honors.
“It’s always huge to get a big time player like Devin back, not only is he a top player, he’s also a great person. I’m excited to see what our offense can do with all the weapons Coach Fuller is putting together.” Said Jacksonville Sharks President Steve Curran.
In 2018, Wilson played for the Maine Mammoths under current Sharks Head Coach James Fuller. Wilson was the only Mammoth to receive First Team All-NAL honors. In his solo season in Maine, Wilson racked up 79 receptions for 1,035 yards and 27 touchdowns, leading the team in both receiving yards and touchdowns. During the 2017 season, Wilson was a member of the Sharks first National Arena League title team playing in six games where he had 18 receptions for 170 yards and three touchdowns. Wilson came to the Sharks after leaving the Cleveland Gladiators of the AFL, where he played two seasons (2016-2017). During his time in Cleveland he hauled in 21 passes for 262 yards and scored nine touchdowns for the Gladiators.
Wilson began his arena football career with Head Coach James Fuller in 2015 with the Richmond Raiders, helping the team to a playoff semi-final victory over the Nashville Venom coached by Billy Back and a league championship appearance against Jason Gibson and the Columbus Lions. Devin also played in the CFL (Candian Football League) with the Saskatchewan Roughriders during the 2015 season.
Wilson attended Tennessee State University from 2009-2013. During his college career, he totaled 76 receptions for 935 yards and six touchdowns.
