NFL Journeyman Keith Lewis Signs with Sharks

Veteran Defensive Back Added to Jacksonville's Roster

JACKSONVILLE – The 2019 National Arena League Champion Jacksonville Sharks have announced today the signing of defensive back Keith Lewis who signs for his seventh season of professional football and third season of arena football. 


Lewis (6’1, 205) spent the 2019 season with the Quad City Steamwheelers where he played in five-game recording 12 tackles and one interception. In 2018, Lewis helped the Carolina Cobras to their first National Arena League Championship title playing in 10 regular season games totaling 30 tackles, six pass breakups, one tackle for loss, and two interceptions. In 2017, he signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League but did not see any regular-season action. In 2016, Lewis got a workout with the Kansas City Chiefs and shortly after was signed by Kansas City. During training camp, Lewis was released by the Chiefs and then signed by the Detroit Lions where he played in two preseason games for Detroit.


In 2015, Lewis was signed by the New York Jets, following his release he played for the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL before returning to the NFL with the San Diego Chargers where he finished the 2015 season. In 2014, Lewis was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a defensive back, Lewis made both the training camp and preseason roster but was part of the final 53 man cut right before the start of the regular season. During the preseason, Lewis played in all four games for the Bucs totaling six tackles, two pass breakups, and an interception. Following his release, he was picked up by the Omaha Mammoths of the Fall Experimental Football League (FXFL) for their inaugural season.


In College, Lewis was a JUCO star at the College of DuPage before finishing his career at the Virginia University of Lynchburg. As a defensive back for VUL he had 11 career interceptions, five of which were returned for touchdowns, 29 pass deflections, and three fumble recoveries during his two seasons. Lewis is a native of Chicago, IL and graduated from Marie Sklodowska Curie Metropolitan High School.
