Jacksonville Acquires 2017 NAL MVP Warren Smith

    All-NAL Arm Enters Sharks Training Camp


JACKSONVILLE, FL – The Jacksonville Sharks announce today the signing of quarterback Warren Smith who signs for his 10th season of arena football and first with the Jacksonville Sharks.


Warren Smith (6’0, 200) spent the 2021 season with the Jersey Flight of the National Arena League. Smith played in all eight games for Jersey leading the team in the air with 167 completions for 1,561 yards and 25 touchdowns. Smith also led the Flight on the ground rushing for 17 yards and four rushing touchdowns. In 2019, Smith was the starting quarterback for the Atlantic City Blackjacks of the Arena Football League (AFL) completing 84 passes for 994 yards and 19 touchdowns. 


Smith spent the 2018 season with the Washington Valor of the AFL. Smith threw for 488 yards on 51 passes and 10 touchdowns giving up only two interceptions that season. That season the Valor won ArenaBowl XXXI against their rival the Baltimore Brigade. In 2017, Smith split time between the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks and the Washington Valor. After a successful campaign with the Steelhawks, where Smith led the team to the NAL playoffs finishing the season with 169 completions, 1,953 yards, and 56 touchdowns, Smith was awarded NAL MVP & 1st Team All-NAL Honors while he was immediately signed by the AFL to help the Washington Valor. 


In 2016, Smith started the season with the Philadelphia Soul but was released prior to the season and signed with the Philadelphia Yellow Jackets (AIF) but was reassigned to the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (AIF) helping the team to a 6-2 record and a division championship game. Smith finished the year with the Tampa Bay Storm of the AFL where he played in the AFL playoff game against the Philadelphia Soul. In 2015, Smith played for the Spokane Shock (AFL) where he completed 158 passes for 1816 yards and 32 touchdowns. Smith led the Shock to a division semifinal. 


In 2014, Smith played for the Trenton Freedom of the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL). Smith had a career year with 59 touchdowns that season with 46 passing and 13 rushing touchdowns. Smith led the first-year Freedom to the PIFL playoffs and was named 2014 PIFL MVP. Smith spent the 2013 season with the Richmond Raiders of the PIFL helping the team to the PIFL II Cup. Smith spent his rookie season of pro football overseas with the Dresden Monarchs of the German Football League (GFL) helping the team to a 10-4 record and a playoff appearance. 


Warren Smith completed his college career at the University of Maine, where he started in both his junior and senior seasons. As a senior, he was named Second Team All-Colonial Conference helping the Blackbears to a 8-3 regular season record, a first round NCAA Division I-A playoff victory and second round appearance. During his career at Maine, Smith totaled 26 touchdowns with 21 passing scores and five rushing touchdowns. Smith began his college career at Iona College where he started as a freshman throwing 127 passes for 1,347 yards and nine touchdowns while also serving as the team's second leading rusher with 164 yards and two touchdowns. 


Warren Smith is a native of Forked River, NJ where he played for Lacey Township High School. During his athletic career in high school he played both ways in football as the teams starting quarterback and defensive back earning First-Team All-Shore honors at both positions. On top of his accomplishments, he led his team to the state finals three years in a row. Smith also played basketball and baseball, where he was the MVP of his baseball team and was all-county and all-league in basketball.
