Clay Harrell Returns to Sharks Coaching Staff

JACKSONVILLE, FL- The Jacksonville Sharks are pleased to announce the return of Offensive and Defensive Line Coach Clay Harrell. This will be Harrell’s third season with the Sharks who have dominated on both sides of the ball each season he’s been in Jacksonville, including a defensive line who led the league in sacks 2022. Harrell helped coach the Sharks to a 2023 NAL Championship.

“We were very fortunate last year to have one of the most experienced and knowledgeable staff in the country,” Head Coach Jason Gibson said. “Clay Harrell is the best offensive/defensive line coach there is and the respect he gets from his players speaks volumes.”

Harrell is an Arena Football League (AFL) veteran coach and was the defensive coordinator / line coach for the Columbus Destroyers in 2019. Prior to that he served as the defensive line / strength & conditioning coach with the Cleveland Gladiators in 2017. Harrell also spent time as the offensive/defensive line coach for the Orlando Predators and Portland Thunder. 

As a player, Harrell was a standout fullback with the Spokane Shock helping the team to an Arena Bowl XXIII victory in 2010.  He spent his college career playing for Northern State University where he earned All Conference honors in 2005. Coach Harrell is from Sacramento, CA.
